Sweden came up with a great ruse. They'd get normal Swedish people to tweet about how great Sweden is using an official twitter account. Every day a new Swedish person would tweet to a single account. As an idea it's a good one. Giving the ordinary person a chance to have their say as a way to promote tourism is a good idea.
In theory.
The trouble is that is showed a marked lack or reality and a deep belief in the hype of marketing. As anyone who has spent any time on the Internet, or the social media in general, knows the reality is that there is always some knob who'll ruin the very best of ideas.
We've seen malicious virus's slowing our Internet and making us instal antivirus software, we've seen real criminals hijack the open vistas of the Internet resulting in vileness. We see trolls and idiots bully and hound the blameless.
It's always the dicks that ruin a good thing.
And so it is with the Swedish twitter project. It's had to be called off after one of their contributors posted anti-Semitic comments.
The fact that it was inevitable doesn't make it less sad. There really are some nasty bigots out there.
It's a shame that another good thing is ruined before it had a chance to evolve into something great.
