Why are politicians treated with kid gloves in court: Tony Blair

Tony Blair has been before the Leveson Inquiry into the press.

What's the point? He's a proven liar. If you want to know how compromised he is by Murdoch all you need to know us that he changed the law to allow Murdoch to take over Sky, worse than this, he is the sodding godfather to Rupert's latest sprong!

And yet Blair whines about the press in relation to his wife, the avaricious Cheri.

The press can be horrible and make people's lives hell, however Cheri was a justified subject. Her world class greed, self of entitlement, and nastiness makes her suitable for press scrutiny. This is a woman who used her husband's position to screw as much money out of people as she could. This is a woman who the press shamed into returning goods she looted from a charity.

She's fair game.

Yet again the farce of questioning Blair points up the ridiculous deference and sycophantic way in which politicians, current or ex, are still treated. No matter their wrong doing or crimes they are treated with kid gloves.

It's sickening.

To my mind a Monarchy should mean that the actual Monarch is treated with respect but anyone else should be treated equally. Not horribly or rudely, but the same regardless of who our what we are. This should cover the way the press deals with them and how the legal establishment questions them.

The fact that the Monarch, who cannot defend themselves, is attached, mocked, and humiliated, and politicians, many of whom break the law, are treated as if they where gilded princes is pathetic.
