Iran and leftwing bias

War is a awful thing. It's unbelievably expensive in terms of gold and blood. The sheer horror and the damage done to the crippled, the survivors, and the bereaved is devastating. War isn't something to be entered into lightly. The damage it does you may be worse than not doing anything.

However it is a sad fact of life that sometimes war is justified. One only had to look at the Falklands War which Britain was attacked by a fascist dictator or the Second World War to see both the justification and the cost.

Iran is a terrible regime which stamps on the rights of its own people. Women, homosexuals, people of other creeds, or even those who want democracy are crushed and persecuted. Terrorism is funded and unrest spread.

It also seems that they want to obtain nuclear weapons. More than this the fanatics who run the regime have constantly made it clear they want to eliminate Israel and kill every Jew. Even nuclear assured destruction which held back the Cold War from turning hot holds no power as those in charge regard such a nightmare as a glorious thing to bring about paradise.

It would be a mistake to allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. This is more than just because of the fate of Israel. If Iran obtain them nuclear weapons would spread thought out the region. For example Saudi Arabia have been shown to want their own bomb if Iran gets it as Iran would be a serious threat to them as they are resource rich, home to Islam's holiest places, and belong to a different branch of Islam.

They are not the only ones. To have arms race in such a volatile region is a recipe for Armageddon.

In today's Guardian Seamas Milne has a article declaring that any attack on Iran to destroy thier nuclear weapon facilities would be an act of 'criminal stupidity'. As an article it's pretty poor as it doesn't deal with how one stops a repressive and undemocratic regime which has often told the world that they will destroy another country with nuclear weapons from getting such weapons.

He also doesn't see the incongruity of being agianst action in Iran but being one of the cheerleaders for our war in Libya.

However what saddens me is the comments this article has elicited. Comment after comment is full of the most cliched leftwing bias. America and the Jews are seen as the enemies. The American military are likened to Christian fanatics who fly their bombers certain that Christ is in their cockpit. That the Republicans would introduce stoning for homosexuals and that America is a death camp. Worse, and rather more worrying the old sickening canard about Jewish control of the world and the Jewish banks who want war emerges once agian. The same lie is always found in some of the left. You found it in Germany before and during WWII.

How can many on the left be so blinded by their bias that they cannot see that Iran is brutal. That it murders those who the left are supposed to support: women, homosexuals, ethnic groups.

Bias and hatred against America doesn't automatically make its opponents good or just. America has its faults, as all countries do, but it is wrong to compare them to the Iranian dictatorship. To dress up real anti-Semitism by talking about Israel and Zionism and compare both to women stoners shows a contempt for the suffering of the Iranian people and blind bias.

I find the closed minded and simplistic thinking of too many on the left sad.
